There have been reports from customers in communities across Ontario receiving fraudulent calls from telemarketers claiming to be representatives of their local utility company. The fraudulent callers allegedly demand payment of electricity bills by wire transfer or credit card to avoid immediate disconnection of their service. The fraudulent caller’s direct customers to a fake call centre with a 1-800 number to make their payment.
